I love Sunday evenings. There is just something about those low-key evenings at home, unwinding from a busy weekend and mentally prepping for the impending Monday workday.
My dear friend Neha and I used to have a weekly get together on Sunday evenings where we alternated between trying our hand at cooking or just ordering in some of our favorite foods. During the fall and winter months, we tended to order in more, but didn’t mind because we were too busy watching NFL football and one of my all-time favorite shows, The Amazing Race (which just happens to be currently airing in its 24th season).
Somewhere along the way we discovered Homemade Pizza Company and were instantly hooked. The concept behind Homemade Pizza Company is this:
Over the course of time, Neha and I not only figured out the menu items we absolutely loved, but we got our order down to a science. This is what we would get:
The Pear Salad: Splitting the small salad between the two of us worked best. Usually this salad is served with blue cheese, but because we are women that know what we like, we would swap this out for feta cheese. “Our” salad includes mixed greens, fresh pear, feta cheese and spiced walnuts with Homemade Pizza Company’s signature balsamic dressing. Something about the spiced walnuts and the dressing give this otherwise kind of boring salad, a flavorful, spicy kick. Try it out!
Cheese Pizza With Toppings: We would split a medium pizza and usually had a slice or two leftover for our Monday lunches! As for toppings, we usually went with what I like to call the “desi special” which is green peppers and onions (the term “desi” basically translates to mean Indian). For some reason, pizzas with green pepper and onions tend to be the standard among Indian people around the world. I have no idea why! But, having grown up eating pizza with these two particular toppings, it really has become a part of who we are and our childhood memories. I don’t think Neha and I even discussed the topping options much as it was sort of an unstated assumption, and it definitely became our staple order. And we loved it.
The pizza sauce is awesome and flavorful but the best part is their crust….tasty and not at all greasy. It really doesn’t get much better than this and the best part is that you can cook it to your own perfection (I prefer mine a little more crispy and cooked well done rather than soft). Check them out next time you are up for “making” something at home. I promise you won’t be sorry you did. Even better if you enjoy it with some Sunday night TV favorites!
Awww! Love this post and totally missing our Sunday night ritual right about now. Can’t wait to have another Sunday pizza and salad night with you!
Thanks Neha! We need to plan a pizza night:) Move back to Chicago!!!
