Now, as you know, I write mostly about food, travel and cool Chicago events. As I am getting invited to more and more charity galas, black-tie affairs and other fun events, I’m also needing to look the part. Wait, who am I??

For several occasions now, I’ve used the service Rent The Runway, and let me tell you…it’s awesome! The basic premise is that you can rent beautiful, designer outfits and accessories online for any of your special occasions. It’s such a great alternative to spending lots of money on a dress you know you will only wear once or it’s just a way to add more pieces to your wardrobe. And, who doesn’t like to wear some of the most fashionable brand names and labels out there?

For those of us in Chicago, NYC, Vegas and DC, there are Rent The Runway shops where you can go in and try on the outfits and work with a stylist to help you perfect your look. Since I am fortunate to have a store in my city, I did just that.

Here are two looks that I used Rent The Runway for and absolutely loved:

My Birthday Party– I knew I wanted to look and feel fabulous for my birthday party, and that is just what I did. I got so many compliments on my look which was a dress by Jason Wu (who is best known for designing Michelle Obama’s inauguration dress), Alexis Bittar earrings and cuff as well as a Diane von Furstenberg clutch.

The First Look For Charity Black Tie Gala– I needed a floor length gown for this event and ended up going with the Erin Fetherston gown, Dannijo cuff, Ben-Amun earrings and Whiting & Davis clutch. Can you believe this is the first time I’ve ever worn a full length gown? Me either!
